The manuscript for Who Killed Fidel Castro? also was named a finalist in the Mystery/Suspense/Thriller category of the National Indie Excellence Awards.

Pereda's award was announced at one of the publishing industry's largest events, Book Expo America, in New York City.

Who Killed Fidel Castro? was named a semi-finalist in Amazon's Breakthrough Novel Award, beating out about 4,000 other entries.
