Welcome to my balcony!
From my home on Brickell Avenue, I can see the seagulls flying overhead and the pleasure boats dotting Biscayne Bay -- just another blue-hued, sun-splashed autumn morning.
No wonder they call Miami, Paradise.
I hope you'll join me each month, as we share the view together. In this issue, you'll find out about my newest release, some of the latest news and gossip from South Florida and learn where we can meet at an upcoming book signing.

  • GETTING FILTHY RICH

    Just released!
    Getting Filthy Rich
Sex, international intrigue and a high-stakes swindle are at the center of this suspense-thriller based on a true story.
Rich Connermann, a small-time Houston con man who makes a living duping investors, believes he has a scheme that will make him wealthier than he's ever dreamed.
With $2 million in his pocket and a mistress on his arm, he heads to the Middle East to hoodwink some wealthy Arabs. But Rich's plans don't go quite like he thinks.
Initial reviews have raved about Getting Filthy Rich, calling it "a rollicking novel" and "a fun ride."
You can order this book from Amazon.com. I'd love to include YOUR reviews in future newsletters.

    NEWS & VIEWS

Like other Cuban-Americans, I've watched with great interest the recent news on Fidel Castro. It seems like everyone I know has an opinion, as reflected in the multitude of e-mails I receive on the topic.
I have an opinion, too. I believe Fidel Castro has provided us with a plethora of intense and often contradictory emotions for the last 50 years. My biggest concern is not whether he's going to die -- after all, sooner or later we all die -- but about what's going to hapen to so many of us once he does die.
For sure, his death will leave us with an emotional vacuum. Can you envision reading The Miami Herald or turning on your TV set and not finding a critical report on Castro?
As some of you may know, Castro was the subject of one of my books, Havana Confidential. It's the tale of a Cuban- born plastic surgeon lured from Miami to Havana to change Castro's appearance so that he can "retire" peacefully in Mexico. One enthusiastic reviewer had commented, "It makes the reader wonder if this could really happen."
The sequel, Who Killed Fidel Castro, picks up where the first novel leaves off and speculates that Raul Castro is the power behind the throne in Cuba. These were written before Castro's recent health problems. Who Killed Fidel Castro is due out next year. E-mail me if you would like to be on the advance order list. You can order Havana Confidential on my Web site: www.peredabooks.com.
And by the way, Havana Confidential is being considered by a well known Hollywood director. I'll keep you posted on that in future newsletters.

I'll be at a large book- signing event with 30 selected authors at the Gulf View Square Mall in Port Richey on Oct. 21 and 22. I hope you'll come by and say hello.
