After its successful inaugural meeting in April, the Asheville Writing Enthusiasts (AWE) will resume monthly meetings on Saturday May 3, 2008, in the Board Room at Pack Place, 2 South Pack Square in downtown Asheville at 10:30 a.m. The guest speaker this time will be David Pereda, director of AWE, who will be giving a presentation geared to aspiring writers, published authors and literature lovers titled “Understanding the Basic Elements of Fiction.”
Pereda, an award-winning author of five novels, is a member of the staff at A-B Tech, where he teaches creative writing and ESL (English as a Second Language). His poetry has appeared in several anthologies. He also writes a wine column for "Pasajero," the in-flight magazine of Aeropostal, the international Venezuelan airline.
AWE has three main objectives: (1) to encourage and educate Asheville area writers through a diverse slate of speakers and monthly critique sessions, (2) to establish and develop contacts with authors, editors, agents and publishers and (3) to foster a community of support among writers who endeavor to improve their craft.
AWE holds regular meetings on the first Saturday of each month from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM and meets at the same time on the third Saturday of each month for critiques.
David Pereda is an award-winning author and college writing instructor based in Asheville, N.C., USA. He is the regional director of the Florida Wrtiers Association's Western North Carolina division and founder of the Asheville Writing Enthusiasts (AWE). Pereda also is a member of MENSA, an accomplished international equestrian competitor and track athlete.
